Carpenter II

Description:Job Summary:

The Carpenter ll will remodel and help build commercial office buildings, hospitals, hotels, schools, shopping malls, and other similar structures. The Carpenter ll will properly operate and maintain various types of equipment, including but not limited to, excavator, skid steer, and dozer.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Works with designers and planners on construction projects
• Defers to the contractor's orders on large construction projects
• Matches materials to requested design specifications
• Measures building materials and spaces for installation accurately
• Provides updates on building materials that need to be ordered or replenished
• Creates materials that fit the client's expectations
• Assembles sturdy and well-constructed floorboards, skirting boards, window frames, doors, door linings, staircases, fitted furniture, cabinetry, shelving, and more
• Incorporates fixtures like door handles and locks, cabinet handles, stairway railing, and other fixtures into design and implementation
• Builds the framework of a building, bridge, ship, or other large-scale construction project
• Utilizes skills in other related trades such as plumbing, roofing, bricklaying, painting, tiling, plastering, etc.
• Participates in first fixing as well as second fixing work
• Combines carpentry work with joining work
• Repairs and refurbishes existing building work
• Replaces damaged wood in hardwood floors and outdoor decks
• Uses power tools and other tools to cut and shape wood, metal, and other materials
• Communicates with the rest of the construction team
• Effectively fluently separate concrete, metal and debris
• Efficiently load dumpsters
• Perform routine inspection and properly maintain assigned equipment
• Load, unload and haul equipment and trailers as necessary
• Complete required paperwork, forms and records as required
• Be able to solve problems as they arise with knowledge and critical thinking
• Travel to job sites
• Follow applicable safety rules, regulations, guidelines, policies and site-specific safety plans
• Operate routinely used tools and equipment
• Pad lots level, cut in swales for drainage, cut in for driveway and walkway
• Perform a final grade for landscaping. Operate routinely used tools and equipment
• Operate safely and efficiently while placing little unnecessary strain on equipment undercarriage

Skills and Qualifications

• Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and sketches and to fully grasp requirements.
• Accuracy taking measurements and calculating the size and amount of material needed for a project.
• Strong working knowledge of carpentry techniques and methods, including installation and construction.
• Proficient in using electrical and hand tools, as well as measurement tools.
• Skilled in use of all tools necessary to cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material (e.g. fiberglass) according to measurements.
• Able to build window frames, doors, staircases, brattices, and frame buildings by using raw materials or pre-constructed items.
• Able to install items such as hardwood floors, siding, cabinets, drywall, and insulation a plus
• Skills needed to lay out flooring, roofing, and drywall, ensuring they are level, plumb, and installed with as little waste possible.
• Ability to assemble/build scaffolding and other needed construction structures.
• Ability to identify and correct unsafe conditions
• Capable of working at a sustained pace and produce quality work
• Must be accountable for conduct and have excellent attendance
• Ability to follow instructions
• Ability to work in in a team environment
• Must have a strong work ethic, reliable, and exercise good judgment
• Must pass Background Check, Drug Test and have a clean MVR
• Willingness to comply with safety guidelines at all times.
• Solid basic math skills.
• Good physical condition, stamina, and dexterity.
• Ability to have a flexible work schedule, including working overtime and weekends as needed
• Class E/Class A or Class B (Required)
• Class B CDL (Preferred)
• Safety conscious
• Ability to work overtime
• Ability to work in various conditions with exposure to weather elements
• Must be able to read and speak English well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, instructions, signs, signals, and safety training
• A mechanical aptitude
• Must pass Background Check, Drug Test and have a clean MVR
• Available to work varied hours, as needed, to meet our customer needs

Education and Experience
• High School Diploma
• 5 years of experience in carpentry in a variety of settings, preferred
• 1-3 years of experience in the use of Loader Operators
• 3 years of experience as a Machine Operator

Certifications / Training Requirements
•Loader Operator Certification preferred, but not required
