Traffic Control Services Position Overview:

Traffic Control Company seeks an experienced Business Development Manager to drive aggressive new customer acquisition across our Southeast territory. This is a true “hunter” role focused exclusively on winning new business from utilities, engineering firms, general contractors, and municipalities. Unlike traditional account management positions, this role emphasizes prospecting, relationship building with new accounts, and closing deals that expand the company’s market presence.

Territory and Market Focus

● Primary Territory: Georgia (headquarters-based) extending across the Southeast region, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, and Alabama

● Engineering and consulting firms – Infrastructure design-build projects, geotechnical

● General contractors and construction companies – Highway construction, municipal infrastructure

● Electric, water, and telecommunications utilities – Power line work, sewer projects, fiber optic installation

● DOT agencies and municipalities – Transportation projects, emergency response contracts, special events

Core Responsibilities New Business Development (80% Focus):

● Identify and pursue qualified prospects within utilities, engineering firms, and construction companies

● Conduct a minimum of 50+ prospecting touchpoints weekly through cold calls, emails, and in-person events and visits

● Conduct minimum of 10+ job site and in-person visits weekly; must be comfortable navigating work zones

● Develop and execute strategic territory plans to penetrate new accounts and market segments

● Build relationships with key decision makers at target accounts through consistent engagement

● Generate qualified leads and manage a robust sales pipeline using a CRM system

● Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to expand business network

Revenue Generation:

● Annual revenue target of $2.5M+ in new business from prospect accounts

● Close new contracts ranging from $10K utility projects to $1M+ infrastructure accounts

● Negotiate contract terms, pricing, and service agreements with new clients

● Work with the operations team to ensure successful project delivery and client satisfaction

● Develop long-term relationships that create recurring revenue opportunities

Market Intelligence and Strategy:

● Monitor competitive landscape and identify market opportunities

● Provide feedback to leadership on pricing, service offerings, and market trends

● Collaborate with the operations team to develop service capabilities that win new business

● Represent the company at ATSSA events, DOT meetings, and industry associations

Qualifications Industry Experience:

● Minimum 3-5 years of business development or outside sales experience in traffic control, construction, or related infrastructure industries

● Proven track record of winning new business and exceeding sales targets

● Established relationships with utilities and utility contractors, engineering firms, or construction companies preferred

● Understanding of DOT regulations, work zone safety requirements, and traffic control standards.

Professional Skills:

● Working knowledge of MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) requirements

● Experience with CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite

● Excellent presentation, negotiation, and communication skills

● Valid driver’s license with clean driving record – role requires 80%+ travel within territory

Compensation and Benefits:

● Base Salary: $75,000 – $95,000 annually based on experience and territory performance potential

● Commission Structure: bonus plan with on-target compensation potential of $115,000 – $145,000; uncapped commissions for top performers
