Job Overview

DCLT is creating a director-level position charged with overseeing both development and communications, as the two areas are tightly connected and equally critical to our plans for growth. This is an outward-facing and highly visible position that cultivates relationships and partnerships to further the mission of DCLT.

In broad strokes, we anticipate the position will address the following:

· Identify and cultivate new prospects for funding in three key areas: corporate giving, individual giving, and foundation/philanthropic giving.

· Implement new procedures and systems, including technology tools, to support fundraising activities.

· Develop content that effectively tells DCLT’s story to our community and our funders.

· Enhance the marketing of our nonprofit brand through social media and traditional outlets.

· Lead the Development and Communications team to engage with all stakeholders, community members, residents, partners, and governmental entities.

Roles/Responsibilities

The DDC supports the long-term vision of DCLT through collaboratively working with the leadership team to fundraise and increase communication activity. The position involves carrying out the fundraising plan, overseeing community engagement, and activities of assigned staff. Specific responsibilities include (but not are not limited to):

· Work with the ED, board of directors, and volunteer committees to plan, execute, and facilitate fundraising and communication initiatives.

· Develop annual revenue goals and a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate support, foundations, and individual donors (major donors, smaller-level donors, online, etc.), as well as other appropriate sources.

· Create the annual department budget and annual calendar of fundraising and communications activities.

· Cultivate and solicit potential donors, utilizing strong presentation and interpersonal skills.

· Directly handle or oversee the writing of funding proposals, direct-mail letters, special event materials, and other content.

· Oversee gift accounting and reporting functions, including management of the donor database.

· Develop and implement effective communication strategies that build awareness of the issue of affordable housing and DCLT’s role in the Durham community

· Oversee the design, content, and production of collateral materials for a variety of communications channels.

Required Skills/ Experience

· Bachelor’s degree required, with a preferred emphasis in communications, marketing, public relations, or related fields. (Master’s degree preferred) · Excellent interpersonal, project management, verbal, and written communication, including strong presentation skills. Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, community members, residents, etc.

· Minimum three years’ work experience demonstrating competency in comprehensive development programs, community relations, communications/marketing, and proposal writing.

· Creative with experience in giving campaigns, including special events, direct mail, social media placements, planned giving, and capital campaigns.

· Knowledge of budget development, administration, and team-building.

· Computer skills preferred include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Raiser’s Edge* or comparable donor database.

Salary and Benefits

DCLT’s salary range is $75,0000 to $88,000.
